Here is a screencast I made showing the Phonetics: Sounds of American English website from the University of Iowa. It is my favourite website for showing and explaining American English pronunciation. Great site with animations, video clips, and sound clips.
Here is another video I made about VOA News and the Learning/Special English section. I recommend using the articles from the VOA News Special English and the MP3 files for each article.
Try ‘shadowing’ the narrator by reading along at the same time. Imitate the narrator’s pronunciation, stress, intonation, and timing. This will help your pronunciation and improve your speaking confidence. Speak aloud record yourself. Listen and record yourself again.
Here is another short video I made introducing VOA News and their Learning English/Special English. The VOA Learning English channel on Youtube is another great way to improve English. I think the fact that the announcers speak slower than most news broadcasters makes it a lot easier for English learners. Also, the embedded subtitles help for vocabulary as well as pronunciation. All around a great resource.
This is a short video I made about Listen-and-write.com. I think it’s a great resource for improving English listening skills. I also like the fact that Listen-and-write uses VOA News for most of the listening exercises. I’m a big fan of VOA News and think it’s one of the best resources available for people who want to improve their English skills.
